Member representing Aniocha Oshimili federal constituency in the National Assembly, Hon Ngozi Okolie has decamped from the Labour Party (LP) which brought him to power to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He broke the news this evening (Friday) while speaking to journalists at his home in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria.
According to him, as reported by Golden Nation Multimedia, “I am no longer a member of the Labour Party. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but I believe this decision will bring progress and more good things to my people.”
When asked why he left the Labour Party, he explained that the party has too many problems and lacks leadership.
“To be honest, the Labour Party is disorganized. There is no direction, and the problems are too many. I don’t think we can make progress in the National Assembly with all that confusion”.
But in a sharp reaction, the National Vice Chairman of Labour Party in charge of South South, Chief Tony Ezeagwu told The Townhall that “Okolie’s defection is of no effect. It is actually good riddance.
Let me tell since he came to power through our platform which he is discrediting now he never connected with the party and lacked visibility in Abuja where he is sent to represent the people. He was one man alone.
“Ask questions, few days ago before this defection he called a meeting of the Party comprising the four local government areas of his constituency but the local government Chairmen walked out on him.
As you can see he defected alone, so we are not going to lose sleep at all”, Ezeagwu concluded .
