DEPUTY Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa has dismissed the insinuation to the effect that former Governor Adams Oshiomhole dictated that his son be appointed a Commissioner in the new cabinet.
Rather, he insisted that the appointment of Dr Cyril Oshiomhole, son of Adams Oshiomhole was done based on merit despite the fact that his father kicked against it.
Idahosa clarified this position while speaking as a Guest on Channels TV on Wednesday.
His words: “This position has nothing to do with Senator Adams Oshiomhole. In fact, Adams didn’t want it. He opposed it. But the governor, because of the vision he wants for the people of Edo has made up his mind to have Dr Cyril Adams Oshiomhole to be in our Exco, not because of his father.
“So, for us, we have made up our minds, we are going to look at the competence, not because this person is a son of who, or any other person.’’
Cyril Oshiomhole, a seasoned medical doctor, with education and professional experience in Nigeria and the United States was chosen for his expertise
“This guy, Dr Cyril”, he went on, “has the competence and he has worked in health sectors before. The governor found him worthy to be one of the exco members in Edo. So, I don’t see anything wrong with that. Even if someone else is the governor of Edo, I believe if he finds Dr. Cyril competent, he should be able to bring him on board as the commissioner for Health in Edo State.
“The father did not have any role or influence in this decision. He (Cyril) has everything it takes to be in the Exco. So, because he is a son of someone doesn’t forbid him from occupying the seat he has the competence to occupy”, stated the Edo Deputy Governor.
