Police have, at last, launched investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing of a 22-year old Moses Mba who had gone to the residence of Cross Rivers State Governor to deliver prophetic message to the governor.
There had been conflicting reports emanating from the ugly incident which had thrown the family into deep mourning.
Unconfirmed report claimed that the boy was allegedly shot by security operatives stationed at the Governor’s residence whom claimed that the boy was mentally deranged and was trying to force himself inside by all means.
Although the family of the boy had alleged a masterminded cover up but the Cross River State Police Command assured that there would be no cover up of any sort.
The Cross Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Rasheed Afegbua stated in Calabar on Saturday the command has launched investigation, saying it about to subject the body to autopsy examination.
According to him, “Yes, there was a shooting, but we need to determine the exact cause of death. Was it the gunshot, or something else? We have concluded arrangements to conduct the autopsy, and the findings will be made public”.
Mba was allegedly beaten and shot in the leg on August 1 by security operatives at Governor Bassey Otu’s former residence. He reportedly visited the house to deliver what he described as a divine message for the governor.
According to his mother, Mrs. Victoria Mba, the incident led to his death on August 9 at the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar, following complications from the injuries.
