Controversial Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Julius Abure who was purportedly reelected yesterday (Wednesday) at its national convention held in Anambra State for a second term in office amidst boycotts from key stakeholders of the Party including Mr Peter Obi, Party’s National Assembly caucus is in a deep mess.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has come out to disown the purported Wednesday’s national convention held in Anambra State, Nigeria.
Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, said this in Abuja today Thursday, that the conduct of that very convention was not monitored by them (INEC), declining to state further why it was not monitored.
The LP had on Tuesday shifted the national convention from Umuahia in Abia to Nnewi, Anambra State.
Leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC had since vowed that it won’t t accord the National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, any form of recognition following his re-election.
Reacting to the outcome of the convention, NLC spokesman, Benson Upah, vowed that the Congress will never back the Party under Abure’s leadership.
While describing the convention as a charade, Upah told our reporter that the return of the national chairman was a nullity as far as the NLC is concerned.
“It is an illegality, a nullity. The whole exercise was a charade! Nothing can legitimise such brazen impunity”, he stated
