Traditional Chief, several others perish in boat mishap in Delta

Unspecified number of persons including a traditional chief have lost their lives in a tragic boat mishap that occurred in Delta State.

The unfortunate incident took place at the Ughoton River in Okpe local government area of Delta State.

Report from the area said that the victims were returning from a burial ceremony when the boat mishap occurred.

According to an eye witness the speeding boat hit a concrete pillar of the Ughoton/Omadino bridge leading to fatal accident.

As at the time of this bodies of the victims were yet to be recovered.
It was not immediately ascertained how many passengers boarded the boat.

But it was gathered that they were few survivors including “the husband of a missing woman and father to their missing children survived the incident as he was said to have swam out of the river unhurt”, according to an eye witness report.

Search party has commenced action.
