THE governor of Akwa Ibom State, South-South, Nigeria, Pastor Umo Eno has appointed his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki to take over the role of the First Lady of the State, hitherto played by his late wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.
He announced that the decision was taken with a view to sustain his late wife’s legacy, especially her pet project, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), pointing out that his wife’s legacy would have to continue through Helen (daughter) who will coordinate the First Lady’s office and its programmes.
This was disclosed during a condolence visit of the President’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to the Eno family in Uyo on Friday.
Bereaved Governor Eno told Tinubu’s wife and the entourage that “I married her when she was 19, and I was 22. I called her Oluwa-Kemi because she was truly a gift from God.
“Her passing is an irreplaceable loss for me. She was my embodiment of the Biblical virtuous woman. It is not an easy task ahead, but I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office (First Lady)”.
The Governor dismissed speculations about remarrying, saying, “I am not considering remarrying anytime soon. I don’t have the money to pay another bride price”.
Applauding the decision, Tinubu’s wife said “This is a thoughtful way to sustain Patience’s legacy, much like practices in the United States”.
