Police arrest ex- convict for stealing ‘Okada’ 5 days after he completed jail term at Ogwashi-Uku prison for the same offence

MEN of the Delta State Police command have arrested a young man for allegedly stealing motorcycle popularly known as ‘okada’, five days after he completed his jail term at Ogwashi-Uku.

Ironically it was the same offence that sent him to Ogwashi-Uku prison earlier and barely one week of coming out he went back again.

This was disclosed in a press release by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, a Superintendent of Police SP  today (Monday) obtained by  The Townhall.

According to him, “On 11/8/2025 at about 1530hrs, Patrol Team of Eagle-Net Special Squad Asaba, while on visibility patrol, received a distressed call on a missing motorcycle.

“In a combined effort with some members of Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NFSS), they arrested (names withheld by The Townhall) and a missing motorcycle was recovered.

“The said suspect is an ex-convict who was released from Ogwashi-uku correctional facility 6th of August 2025 after completing his jail term of two years for a similar offence of stealing a motorcycle. The suspect went back to steal another motorcycle just five days after returning from prison.

“Investigation was extended to the suspect’s residence, where a search warrant was executed and one Tiger Generator, one big fireman generator one iron measuring scale were recovered. Suspect is in custody”, the statement added.

The release further stated that “The Delta State Command, under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has recorded another success in the fight against crime and criminality.

“The Policing strategy of CP Olufemi”, it went on, “is an intelligence-driven one who promotes police that promotes proactive and not reactive policing.

“All officers, DPOs and heads of formations have been mandated to key into this policing strategy and ensure that their Areas of responsibility are adequately Policed”.
