The leadership of the Labour Party LP has cried out over an alleged attempt to pursue an identity theft agenda by hijacking the ‘Obidient Movement’ in the coming governorship election in Imo State.
LP spokesman for the Presidential campaign Dr. Yunusa Tanko revealed this Tuesday at news conference and shed more light when he appeared at the Arise Television’s 9 o’clock News.
Said he, “all those who are contesting against Labour Party are accused of this particular attempt because humongous money has been shared among different, different groups to lay claim that ‘Obidient Movement’ can now vote for a particular candidate outside for the Labour Party candidate and trying to send a signal that look, the ‘Obidient Movement’ does not belong to a political party. That it belongs to a movement that is trying to make a change.
“That change”, he went on, “is directly under the brand ownership of Peter Gregory Obi. This is the exact message we are trying to sell”, Tanko stated.
Asked why LP is holding on tenaciously to the ‘Obidient’ identity, whereas before the presidential candidate came out the name was already out there, Tanko replied thus:
“A message was sent, a message was sent by an individual and that particular message resonated with the individual and the Youth. Let me give you example, remember the ‘Kwankwasa’, the ‘Zikism movement and so forth.
“So, this particular name is already tagged Obi and you can ascribe it solely to him, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi. That is why we are giving early warnings to those who have traded this particular idea, gimmick making press statements saying that ‘Obidient Movement’ can work or vote another political party. No, not so. The ‘Obidient Movement’ is a sole brand of Peter Gregory Obi because the Nigerian people believe in his style of leadership, his style of politics and so he has given directive when he went to Imo State in Owerri to vote for the Party candidate. He went there with ‘Obidient family including the very elected governor of Abia State”, he added.
