DETAINED traditional ruler of Ewu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, His Royal Majesty King Clement Ikolo has regained freedom.
He was released at about 11am today (Friday) following the intervention of the three Senators from Delta State, namely Senator Ede Dafinone,(Delta Central) Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North) and Joel Onowakpo-Thomas (Delta South).
The Townhall gathered that the monarch was formally released with the Senator representing his (monarch) senatorial district – Senator Ede Dafinone standing in as Surety.
Spokesman for the Army, Major General Clement Nwachukwu said that the traditional ruler was handed over to Senator Dafinone by the Military authority at about 11: am today with understanding that the Senator senator will produce him whenever they (Army) require his attention.
The three Delta State Senators had on Tuesday, met with the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa, seeking the release of the monarch whom they believe may not be connected to the crisis that claimed the lives of the soldiers and some civilians.
As a follow up to the visit to the CDC on Wednesday, Senator Dafinone accompanied by Senator Ned Nwoko, had visited the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps where they were granted audience with King Clement Ikolo.
Recall that the monarch surrendered himself to the Police shortly after he was declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters DHQ along with others over their alleged involvement in the Okuama bloodbath.
