His Majesty, Obi (Dr) Emmanuel Efeizomor 11, the Obi of Owa Kingdom has called on political leaders to be more patriotic and learn to lead by example.
He specifically enjoined them to rise up to the task of fixing the country noting that only Nigerians can fix Nigeria.
The monarch, who stated this his New Year Message to Nigerians, also harped on the need for peace, unity and good neighbourliness as well as enhanced security as catalysts for rapid socio- economic and political growth.
The Royal Father who is the immediate past Chairman, Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, stated that those in authority should initiate policies and programmes that will cushion the current economic hardship facing Nigerians and make life more meaningful to the people.
He comnended the development efforts of the Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori saying that the governor had done exceptionally well in bringing dividends of democracy to Deltans particularly infrastructural development, urban renewal, empowerment of the people and prudent management of resources.
He particularly gave Governor Oborevwori a pat on the back for his cordial relationship with the traditional rulers in the State, saying he has shown great respect for the traditional institution in the State.
He therefore called for greater unity and synergy among royal fathers in the State , saying that was the only way to earn the respect and support of the people as the custodians of the customs and traditions of the people.
“Nigerians”, he went on, “should not despair over the harsh economic situation in the country but look forward to a better and brighter future.
“Nigerians should continue to display greater resilience and doggedness in facing the challenges of Nation building”, he stated.
He remarked that 2025 was particularly a difficult year for most Nigerians but asked Nigerian youths not to despair but should look up to the future with the determination to succeed in what ever field of human endeavor they found themselves.
On insecurity the Monarch called on the Federal Government to co-operate with the United States of America in the effort to decisively tackle the intractable cases of insurgency, banditry and other forms of criminal activities bedeviling the nation.
He, as well, commented the Media for living up to their constitutional responsibilities of being the watch dog of the society, urging them not to relent on their role as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
