HARD drugs worth over one billion naira (N1b) were yesterday destroyed at Ubulu-Ukwu, Delta State, where the two year old boy, Ivan Omorhiakogbe who was killed by a stray bullet during a recent raid in Delta State that went awry, was designated as “as a hero in the war against drug abuse in the country”.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa who designated the boy a hero also dedicated the public destruction of over N1Billion seized hard drugs in his memory for paying the supreme price during the ill-fated raid at a black spot in Okpanam, Delta State.

Represented by the acting Controller General of Narcotics, Fidel Cocodia, the NDLEA boss stated that “the destruction exercise clearly showed the level of successes recorded in the agency’s efforts to combat drug menace in the country.

Also speaking, the NDLEA Delta State Commander, John Tunde said that Delta State ranked high among the States in the South South region where drug abuse and illicit trafficking is alarming.

The seized drugs which were set ablaze, according to the State Commander include “5.614 tons of cannabis sativa, cocaine we have 416.77 grams, methaphetamin 105.12 grams, heroin 98.2 grams”.
