No fewer than 30 vehicles and several buildings were reportedly destroyed at Iyiowa Odoekpe Layout, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State by some irate youths.
One person was feared killed during the bloody rampage that took place on Tuesday morning.
The Town Hall Media gathered that the attack was targeted at the immediate past and present leaders of Iyiowa Landlords Association.
It was also reliably learnt that the leadership of the LandLords Association are accusing the Odoekpe traditional institution, key members of the Community as well as a former Chairman of the Association for allegedly instigating the mayhem on the ground a certain person they wanted to emerge as Chairman was dumped.
Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Council, Hon. Pascal Aniegbuna who inspected the level of the destruction condemned the act, pleading that people should not take laws into their hands, stating that efforts would be made to resolve the matter.
Speaking to newsmen the newly elected Chairman of the Iyiowa Layout Landlords Association, Mr Sunday Obinze, said the hoodlums from Odoekpe Community invaded houses at about 8 am on Tuesday morning armed with Pump Action rifles.
“They burnt my Lexus 330 Jeep and damaged the louvres of my four-storey building.
“They broke into shops and carted away drinks, beverages and cash running into several millions of naira after locking the gate leading to the Estate to prevent interference”, he stated.
Contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO confirmed the incident but declined further comments..
