Countdown to the Local Government Council elections in Delta State, there have been a lot of intrigues, horse trading among the political gladiators as political figures across the twenty five local government areas in the State strategise.
The election, according to political pundits serves as a spring board for any known politician particularly within the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP to prove his or her mettle to the effect of being relevant and not a pushover but having firm grip of his/her base.
One of such intrigues played out recently over Udu local government council contestation where one of the serving Commissioners in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s cabinet was allegedly banded as eyeing that local government chairmanship seat.
Whatever the purveyors of that message nursed or intended to achieve remains shrouded in secrecy.
However, in a dramatic turn of event, the very Commissioner in the storm has issued a statement entitled, ‘Disclaimer!’ which reads:
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
It has come to my notice that some persons and a set of known and unknown media practitioners are peddling rumour that I, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA, the Honourable Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Delta State consulted Udu PDP leaders for the position of council chairman.
Let me state without equivocation that I have not consulted anyone for the position of Udu Council Chairman. I am satisfied as Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council.
Those I accosted said they were using it as an “April Fool’s Day” as is commonly used on April 1st of every given year.
Finally, I urge all those peddling such rumour to desist from using my name to trend as such information is too sensitive at this precarious time when the political atmosphere is charged.
Signed:
Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA
Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Delta State
