Killing of Justice Ifeoma Okogwu: Police charge Security Guard, two others to Court

A Security Guard, Godwin Mngumi, identified as the alleged prime suspect in connection with the killing of Justice Ifeoma Okogwu and two others have been charged to Court.

The three suspects are  – Godwin Mngumi, Nnaji Obalum, and Chisom Nwanekolo

They were charged before Justice M. Obi of  Asaba High Court (4).

Details of the said arraignment were still sketchy, however, The Pointer newspaper broke the news about the arraignment late on Thursday night.

The report said that  “Although no defence counsel had entered the case for the suspects, our correspondent gathered that the case file will be forwarded to the Delta State Attorney-General for legal advice before the formal commencement of the trial procedure.

“According to the Delta State Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement which he issued to The Pointer, the suspect, 25-year-old Mngumi, was tracked and arrested in Anambra State, and the phone of the late Justice Okogwu was recovered from him.

“The statement reads, On December 6, 2025, operatives of the homicide section of State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Delta State Police command, acting on intelligence, has arrested one Godwin Mngumi aged 25 years, the security who allegedly murdered Justice Ifeoma Okogwu (Rtd) in Anambra State and the phone of the late retired justice has also been recovered from him.

“Operatives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department arrested the prime suspect, Godwin Mngumi, on December 6, 2025, in Anambra State.

“Mngumi, a security guard to the late retired Judge, was said to have disappeared from the deceased’s residence shortly after the incident and fled to Anambra, where he was arrested and taken into custody.

“Following his arrest, Mngumi confessed that he had spent two weeks before he murdered his employer and took her possessions, which he shared with his accomplice”.
