FRESH facts have emerged to the effect that the Catholic Priest who allegedly shot and killed a boy who threw knockout (bangers) in the Church during the Crossover Service on New year eve narrowly escaped lynching.
He was said to have ran to the house of a Senator to escape lynching.
His identity has been revealed. He is Rev Father Joseph Enyinaya and presently in police custody.
Rev. Father Joseph Enyinaya, according to report was conducting a Crossover Service at Saint Columbus Catholic Church, Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria on New year eve, December 31, 2024, when he got infuriated that excited youths were throwing knockout (bangers) into the church premises.
Facts have shown that the Priest noted for exhibiting hot temper on slightest provocation also killed another boy in the process of firing volleys of bullets who was rushed to the hospital after the shooting spree.
A source who directly spoke with News Express Correspondent today (Thursday) stated that “A second victim of the priest’s shooting has died in the hospital to which he was rushed after the incident. That brings the number of casualties to two..ran to a Senator’s house to escape lynching

“The priest is known to be temperamental. Once it struck midnight and people started shooting bangers, he left the service, hurried to his residence, which is nearby, grabbed his Pump Action Riffle and stated shooting sporadically.
“When the priest realised what he had done, he ran to a Senator’s house where he spent the night to avoid being lynched. The next day the Senator invited the Police and handed him over to them”.
The source further said the Rev. Father Enyinaya hails from a neighbouring community and was supposed to travel to his community that morning (New year) to mark his 25th anniversary of priestly ordination. They had already bought the cows and everything was ready for the celebration that may never be held”, the source lamented.
Imo State Police Spokesman, Henry Okoye who confirmed Rev. Father Enyinaya’s arrest to newsmen on Thursday that a detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain the remote facts surrounding the incident.
“The Police investigation is expected to shed more light on the events leading up to the incident”, the Police spokesman stated.
