Journalist offsets colleague N2.5m hospital bill

A journalist and business man Asiwaju Sola Adebayo recently paid the N2.5m hospital bill of a colleague.

The gesture came against the backdrop of Delta State government indifference to the health challenges of Dave Okpogadie, a broadcast journalist and member of Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel.

In a letter of appreciation signed by the chairman of Delta NUJ council Comrade Churchill Oyowe and Comrade Victor Sorokwu, the council paid glowing tribute to the generosity of Adebayo.

Said the statement :’The extraordinary act of kindness is a wonderful and true reflection of your compassionate spirit, commitment to humanity, and dedication to the welfare of others.
You have demonstrated that true leadership and greatness lie in the ability to uplift others, even when it is not convenient.’

The NUJ described the kind gesture of Adebayo as inspiration, praying God to continue to bless him with good health, prosperity and fulfillment in all his endeavors.

Below is the NUJ letter of appreciation

Expression of Profound Appreciation To Asiwaju Sola Adebayo

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, on behalf of all its members, expresses its profound gratitude to our distinguished elder, veteran journalist, and philanthropist, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, for his extraordinary and selfless contributions toward supporting our colleague, Dave Okpogadie, in his battle with cancer of the gum.

Your uncommon generosity and dedication, even in these economically challenging times, have gone above and beyond all expectations. Following your initial significant support during the first fund raising effort, your singular act of providing the entire N2.5 million during the second appeal fund drive has left us awestruck and deeply touched.

This extraordinary act of kindness is a wonderful and true reflection of your compassionate spirit, commitment to humanity, and dedication to the welfare of others. You have demonstrated that true leadership and greatness lie in the ability to uplift others, even when it is not convenient.

On behalf of the NUJ Delta State Council, we say a heartfelt thank you. Your exemplary actions are an inspiration to us all, and we pray that your kindness is rewarded abundantly. May you continue to be blessed with good health, prosperity, and fulfillment in all your endeavours.

Signed:

Ruth Omigie (Welfare Committee Chairman)

Amaechi Okwara (Welfare Committee Secretary

Churchill Oyowe (Council Chairman)

Victor Sorokwu (Council Secretary)
