Lobbying for the plum job of the Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, Nigeria, has been intensified as interest groups, the academia slug it out on who would eventually emerge to succeed the current occupier of the office, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, whose tenure expires in the next six months.
Already, a group which styled itself as The Integrity Academic Bombers raised dust on Wednesday.
The group in a statement allegedly claimed that there were attempts to unjustly exclude the very important group of Clinical Lecturers with the FELLOWSHIP and MD degree holders from the selection process to pick the next Vice-Chancellor of the University.
The group claimed that the Governing Council was pushed to this position by internal academic staff members of the Governing Council, noting that the “criteria enunciated for the current Vice-Chancellor selection process are novel and certainly targeted at shutting out a very important group – the Clinical Lecturers of the Faculties of Clinical Medicine, Basic Clinical Sciences and Dentistry from the process.
“The goal of this action is still strange; it completely negates the existing extant guidelines and practices in the process of selection of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Universities”, said the group.
But reacting, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Egwunyenga dismissed the claim of the group, saying said “is false alarm; not correct because there are many Professors in the College of Health Sciences who have Ph.D.”
