TWENTY-ONE out of the twenty four members of the Edo State House of Assembly have endorsed an Impeachment Notice against the embattled Deputy Governor of the State, Phillip Shuaibu who had been having a running battle with his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki over the 2024 Edo governorship race.
At today’s plenary (Wednesday) the House formally directed the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Omogbai to immediately serve Philip Shaibu with the Impeachment Notice to enable the process of impeachment which was earlier dropped by the same Assembly to commence.
Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, the Majority Leader, announced during the sitting that the petition signed by overwhelming majority of the members was dated March 5, against Shaibu with 21 of 24 members of the state assembly concurring to the Impeachment.
According to him the petition was anchored on two grounds of perjury and revealing of government secrets, which Shuaibu has only seven days to respond to.
