I remain the Onishe of Ubulu-Uku kingdom, nobody can take it while I’m still alive, Emma Ejiofor insists

THE Onishe of Ubulu-Uku kingdom in Aniocha South local government area of Delta State, Nigeria, Chief Emma Ejiofor has insisted that he remains the Onishe as long as he is still alive warning that anyone parading himself to assume the position should be ready to face the consequences because
“we are not like other social communities we are traditional community”.

Chief Ejiofor stated this in Asaba while clarifying the position of things against the backdrop of a proposed installation of a new Onishe in the community.

Said he, “the titles in the community are shared based on the quarters and each title rotates within the kindred and no one is hereditary except the kingship that moves from the father to his first son.

“Ubulu-Uku cannot have two Onishe (King maker) at a time just as two Kings cannot be on the throne; it takes the throne to have an Onishe and it takes an Onishe to have a King at the throne.

“Nobody has the right to take it even from my kindred. Nobody has right to even assume that position while I am still alive. If you go to my community, we are not like other social communities, we are traditional community.

“When you come to Ubulu-Uku and you greet anybody with his title, one will know where the person is coming from. Titles are shared within the kindreds and nobody interlocks with another person’s title as none is hereditary, they rotate within the families.

“Only one title is hereditary because we operate what is known as the monarchical system, that is for the kingship. The kingship move from father to the first son, not second. We operate the ‘Diokpaship’, the eldest. So for an insane man to come up and say he is assuming when he is not from my kindred, I think that person knows the consequences.

“It is sacrilegious for you to even think of it, not to talk of assuming it. As far as I am concerned and the community, nobody assumes that position when I am still alive even when the person is from my kindred because we do not have two Onishe at a time as two Kings cannot be on the throne”, he further stated.
