How we rescued 4 children from storey building on fire in Asaba, Director of Fire Service narrates

By Austin Ogwuda

DELTA State Director of Fire Service, Mr. Eugene Oziwele has debunked debunked news reports which stated that the water trucks that were brought by the Fire officers at the scene of recent fire incident in Asaba had no sufficient water.

He rather commended his men that responded to that very distress call who successfully rescued four children from the burning building alive.

Speaking to newsmen in his office in Asaba, Wednesday, the Director said, “I received a distress call from the owner of a building at about 9.30pm on the fateful day and he quickly consulted the Federal Fire Service for a joint operation which led to the quelling of the fire as it was late at night”.

Oziwele expressed satisfaction at the breakthrough recorded by the gallant Fire men who went for that rescue operation while advising members of the public to always call G.S.M number 08030882755 when in such distress rather than being hostile to Firemen at the scene of fire incident.

Recall that there was a fire incident that recently occurred at Obi Onuorah Crescent behind Konwea Plaza in Asaba, the Delta State capital, Nigeria.

A widow and mother of four children, Mrs Gloria Sado had told journalists, “I came back from market on Thursday night around 9pm and saw the house on fire”.

Another eye witness, a neighbour one Mr Simon Amalimen, a father of two said, “we heard people calling for help shouting and I noticed that the fire was coming out from my neighbour’s apartment.
People quickly went in to rescue the children from their apartment, otherwise it could have been a different sad story”, he stated.

Simon said that the Fire Service fire truck was coming and going because of water and before their arrival on the third time, two apartments and property have been burnt.
