Fresh crisis looms in Delta APC as Ovie Omo-Agege openly snubs Party’s Chairman, Omeni Sobotie

…. sagaciously refers to him, as ‘Governor’s Chairman’

THE Stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State Chapter held on Friday at Government House, Asaba, has clearly shown that pockets of deep seated animosities are still being nursed by some certain big wigs within the party.

And except urgent steps are taken to diplomatically resolve them, assuage hurting nerves before the party primaries ahead of 2027, there might be an explosion or the usual carpet crossing.

This was evidently displayed as the former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, unarguably, a Party big wig with large followers, openly disowned Sobotie in a viral video.

According to Advocate.ng “The incident occurred when Senator Omo-Agege arrived at the meeting, exchanged greetings with several party leaders seated at the high table, acknowledged the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, and proceeded to greet the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, without recognising the state APC Chairman.

*Omeni Sobotie, Delta APC State Chairman… humiliated, disowned by Omo Agege

“An attempt by the governor to draw his attention to the omission was reportedly brushed aside jokingly, with Omo-Agege referring to Sobotie as ‘the governor’s chairman’, a remark that has since sparked intense reactions within political circles”.

Recall that the controversy over who truly was the party leader between Omo-Agege and Festus Keyamo (SAN), the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development erupted before Governor Sheriff Oborevwori joined the party.

And what seemed to adding salt to an injury, sometime in March last year, Keyamo led a high-profile visit of Delta APC leaders to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Aso Villa, Abuja.

Omo- Agege, who was the party’s governorship candidate in the last general elections and a man that can’t actually be ignored as far as Delta politics is concerned was missing at that very meeting.

Others at meeting with Mr President were Omeni Sobotie, the three APC Senators—Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central), Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North), and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas (Delta South).

Also present at the meeting were Hon. Francis Waive and Hon. Stella Okotete a former national women leader of the APC.

When Journalists asked the National Publicity of the Party, Mr Charles Morka who actually among Keyamo and Ovie Omo-Agege was the recognised authentic leader of the party in Delta State, Morka retorted, “Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy President of the 9th Senate”.
