DELTA State-based Human Rights Activist, Comrade Victor Ojei alias ‘Wong Box’ has broken silence from Police custody.
Barely few hours after that the State Police Public Relations Officer PPRO Bright Edafe, a Superintendent of Police SP issued a press statement alerting the general public that Wong Box was on the run having jumped bail, the embattled Activist has reacted.
Edafe had stated in a terse statement made available to The Townhall, which reads “Victor Ojei aka Wong Box now in custody and will be arraigned for the above stated offenses soonest please”.
When our Reporter requested to find out if he was re-arrested by the Police or that Ojei (Wong Box) on his own turned himself in, Edafe did not respond.
However, in a statement on Friday evening, Wong Box wrote:
“My attention has been drawn to a press release issued by the Delta State Police Command on 29th August 2025 alleging that I am “on the run” after bail. This is false, misleading, and damaging to my reputation.
“For the record:
1. I am not on the run. I duly informed the Police Division handling the matter that I had traveled to Port Harcourt for business but we are back my partner already called the IPO that we will come to A division Asaba next week. We have clearly stated that I would present myself next week upon return despite I am currently at the Assistant Commissioner of Police State Intelligence office as I am writing this public statement.
2. The claim that I “jumped bail” is untrue, as my communication with the police remains open and verifiable.
3. I remain a law-abiding citizen committed to due process, and I am prepared to cooperate fully with lawful investigations.
“I therefore urge the general public to disregard the false impression created by the police statement. I have instructed my legal representatives to take appropriate steps to protect my name and ensure that the truth is placed on record.

On its part, the Delta State Police command had earlier issued a press statement which reads:
SUSPECT ON THE RUN AFTER HE JUMPED BAIL.
“The Command has launched a manhunt for Victor Ojie, popularly known as Wong Box, a self-acclaimed human rights activist. Suspect was arrested on the 14th August 2025 for multiple offences of Assault occasioning harm, Threat to life, and threatening violence contrary to Sec 355, 86, and 249 of the Criminal Code, and granted bail on the same date. The suspect has since refused to show up at the police station for further investigation. It’s pertinent for the command to state the fact as follows;
“On the 29th of May 2025, at about 1100hours, Staff of Benin Electrical distribution company (B.E.D.C) went on official duty of disconnection of electricity supply from defaulting customers, but on getting to the house of the suspect Victor Ojei (Wong box) at Anyameluhor street, Asaba, whose outstanding bill sums up to Four Million, Eight Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Seven Hundred and Eighty Naira (N4,870,780) was disconnected. The suspect, upon sighting the B.E.D.C. staff, rushed to them and attacked them with a cutlass ( video attached), insisting that they must reconnect his compound. The technician, out of fear of being murdered by the suspect, reconnected the light. The suspect did not stop at that; he continued to threaten them, and in the process, a pregnant B.E.D.C. fell, and Victor Ojei charged at her with the cutlass. In the attached video, the suspect Victor Ojei was heard visibly shouting at the B.E.D.C. staff, stating the following,
1. Why will they disconnect his house
2. You don’t know where you came to? Did you ask questions?
3. He ordered them to reconnect the light
4. He called on one Maduka (surname unknown) to bring him an iron.
5. That he will burst their head
6. He said, ‘I GO CUT UNA’
7. He went inside and brought out a cutlass, shouting, ‘I will cut you’
8. He stated again while holding the cutlass ‘ I go cut you, and nothing go happen’
He further stated that he is ‘Wong box of Delta state’, and next time, the B.E.D.C staff should ask questions, stating that he will tell them that he is a ‘politician’.
It is also pertinent to state that one of the B.E.D.C. staff members who was pregnant at the time of the incident was rushed to the hospital, where she was treated for over two weeks.
The Command under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda wishes to reiterate that nobody is above the law, and the suspect is not an exception. The command will ensure that the suspect Victor Ojie A.K.A Wong box is rearrested and brought to justice.
