Determined to serve justice in accordance with the oath of office and fear of God, a Judge has rejected an offer of bribe to her with a view of perverting the cause of justice.
Although the Judge did not disclose the identity of the corrupt lawyer but pronounced curses on whoever that would go behind to receive same on her behalf.
This drama took place in the open court, venue of the Kano State National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal.
The Town Hall Media gathered that immediately the panel of Judges marched out from their Chambers to the open court for the commencement of the day’s proceedings, the Chairman of the Panel, Justice Flora Azinge in an opening remark expressed her anger over attempts by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, to bribe her.
The Judge lamented how senior lawyers particularly engage in such unethical practice saying that “a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who has a pending case before me is attempting to bribe me.
“Money has been flying in this tribunal since yesterday. Whoever collects money on my behalf, God will punish that person and his generation yet unborn — to the fourth generation.
“They keep abusing judges, insulting us everyday in the papers, in the media — that we are taking bribe. Let me repeat again that nobody should approach me”, the Tribunal Chairman warned.
Recall that the perception about the intergrity of the judiciary to serve justice without fear or favour has increased with accusing fingers pointing on some Judges who have miscarried justice after soiling their hands.
The Town Hall Media therefore commends the forthrightness of this Judge and recommend that the National Judicial Council NJC should single this Judge out for commendation while her security and safety shouldn’t not, in any way, be compromised now and in the future.
