DELTA State Commissioner of Police CP Abaniwonda Olufemi on Thursday while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command, narrated how a 17-year-old allegedly faked his own kidnap in connivance with some of his friends.
The bizzare incident according to the CP occurred at Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria.
Said he, “on the 20th of March, 2024, at about 1600 hours, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Agbor Division received complaint on the suspected kidnap of a 17 year old boy (name withheld) in Okhumera quarters, Agbor-obi.
“The suspect forwarded a voice note to his sister stating that he has been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding for one million naira (#1,000,000). The DPO swung into action, acting on a technically generated intelligence and arrested three suspects.
” Investigation revealed that the 17 year old connived with his friends and faked his own kidnap. Before they were arrested, they had already collected a ransom of seven hundred thousand naira (#700,000) and have squandered the money. Investigation is ongoing”, he stated.
In an development, the CP also among other numerous arrests said that his men arrested a suspect who allegedly murdered his girlfriend over a misunderstanding.
According to him, “we (Police) arrested a suspect who murdered his girlfriend in Ozoro.
“On 29/3/2024 at about 0700hours, the DPO Ozoro Division received report on a suspected murder of one Jessica Uzowanne (female) aged 19 years.
“Investigation revealed the victim was stabbed to death by her boyfriend one (names withheld by The Townhall) aged 20 years over a disagreement. Suspect is in custody and investigation”, the CP added.
