DELTA State Appropriation Bill for 2025 financial year was approved by the State House of Assembly during Tuesday’s plenary.
The budget which was passed with the speed of light, less than two weeks after it was presented to the Lawmakers, saw an increase of the total amount from 936. 1 billion naira presented by the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to 979.2 billion naira.
The breakdown of the amount showed the Recurrent Expenditure estimate amended from 348.717 billion naira to 348.767 billion naira, while Capital Expenditure was moved to 630.461 billion naira from 587.361 billion naira.
The amendment according to the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon Maryln Okowa-Daramola, represents an increase of 50 million naira which is 0.014% over the proposed recurrent expenditure and an increase of 43.1 billion naira which is 7.34% over the original proposed capital expenditure budget estimate sent to the House by Governor Oborevwori.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor said the passage of the 2025 Appropriation Bill is a significant milestone to drive development across Delta State and commended the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation and other Sub Committees for their relentless effort in scrutinizing the financial document for 2025 fiscal year for a job well done.
…. Oborevwori submits his brother’s name for confirmation as Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, 18 others for DESOPADEC, Board appointments
In a related development, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has forwarded names of 19 nominees for appointment to various Boards and Commissions to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The Commissions and Boards are the Delta State Sports Commission; Delta State Public Procurement Commission; Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission; Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) ; Delta State Traffic Management Authority; Delta State Waste Management Board and Delta State Urban Water Board.
In separate letters conveying the names of the nominees to the State Assembly and read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor at Tuesday’s Plenary, the Governor named Joshua Onoriode Oborevwori as Chairman nominee for the Delta State Sports Commission, while Mr Okeremute Samuel Sodje, Henrietta Ihiekonye and Oghale Ofremu were nominated as members.
For the Delta State Public Procurement Commission, the Governor nominated David Igodo-AIG rtd as Chairman, with Mr. Edwin Abraka to serve as Director General (DG) of the Commission, while Comrade Venture Daniels and Fyncountry Goodluck Tamaraebi were nominated as members.
In another letter, Governor Oborevwori sought to confirm Mr. Sunday Ebireri as Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission, with Chief Moses Chukwudi Onowu as member.
Similarly, the Governor announced the nomination of Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu as Executive Director, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), just as Hon Matthew Mofe Edema and Ethe Enifome Juliet were nominated as Chairman and member of the Delta State Waste Management Board.
In same vein, Chief Joe Arausi was nominated for appointment as Chairman, Delta State Urban Water Board, just as Chief Peter Idion was nominated for appointment as Chairman, Delta State Traffic Management Authority, while Okiemute Essien Benjamin was nominated as Director of the Traffic Management Authority.
All the nominees have been directed to submit 35 copies of their curriculum vitae (C.V) to the Office of the Clerk of the House, Mr. Otto Aghoghophia on or before Monday, December 2, and to appear for screening on Tuesday, 3rd December, 2024.
