EMBATTLED Accountant General of the Delta State government, Mrs. Joy Enwa who was recently a guest of the Port Harcourt Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with the alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion by former governor Ifeanyi Okowa has finally retired from office.

There was a get-together as members of her staff celebrated with her.
According ALJAZIRIA MEDIA report, “Today, 15th January 2025, the Delta State government marked the retirement of its esteemed Accountant General, Mrs. Joy Enwa after a fruitful career in Civil Service. State ministry staff described her as a woman with a soft heart, dedicated and filled with humanitarian feelings”.
It further stated, “However, it is worth noting that Mrs. Enwa’s tenure has not been without controversy. Recently, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) summoned her for questioning over alleged financial improprieties. Despite this, her contributions to the State’s financial management and her commitment to transparency and accountability remain unparalleled”.
Recall that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detained her recently over allegations of a N1.3 trillion fraud linked to the administration of Ifeanyi Okowa, the State’s former governor.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC Spokesperson, said Enwa was interrogated and later released.
“Mrs. Enwa was detained for questioning over the ongoing investigation into the mismanagement of state funds under the former (Okowa) administration. Some other government officials have also been interrogated”, Oyewale stated.
