By Austin Ogwuda

Political pundit, currently the Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori has emphasized the crucial role of Community Newspapers play in deepening grassroots communication through their reportage.

‎Amori stated this when he received a delegation of Community Newspaper Publishers in Delta State, led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspapers, Comrade Prince Orhomonokpaye on a courtesy visit to his office in Asaba, Delta State capital on Wednesday.

‎Describing the Community Newspapers as the first contact with the people, Amori said, “The mainstream and national dailies are not detailed enough; they are in a hurry to publish their news. But the community newspaper goes deeper, knows the language of the local people and communicates to them in same.

‎“I sit in State Executive Council (Exco) meetings and I see the volume of jobs and projects the Governor approves at each meeting.  It is the responsibility of the community newspapers to cascade this information to the people, so they are not left in the dark or misinformed.

‎“No matter the shortcomings”,  he went on, “the Government will continue to give its support and partnership to the Community Newspapers to the overall good of the people”.

‎Responding on behalf of the delegation, Comrade Orhomonokpaye thanked the Chief Adviser for his warm reception and consistent support for the media.

‎“We are committed to ensuring the government’s developmental efforts reach every corner of the State through our platforms”,  he assured.
