THE General Overseer of a new generation Church (name withheld) based in Agbarho, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State has been arrested by the Police over an alleged attempt to kidnap a fellow Bishop also based in the same Agbarho town.

The General Overseer was arrested along with his wife, Assistant Pastor and some Elders of the Church currently detained at the Ughelli Police A Division.

The Townhall gathered that the arrested Bishop whose church is located at Owhofasa Street in Agbarho was traced to a hideout while fleeing upon information that Police were chasing after him.

A competent source revealed that “Our Bishop sent a text message of kidnapping and assassination to the other Bishop (name withheld) whose church is more populated than his demanding for N150,000 and out of fear, the threatened Bishop sent him (suspect) the sum of N100,000

Contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP) told The Townhall on phone on Tuesday that “The story is not entirely true, we don’t know the deal they had but the Pastor (General Overseer) was using another GSM number to blackmail the other Bishop that if they don’t send N150,000 they will come and kidnap him.

“Though the Bishop sent the money but reported and we traced, arrested and linked it to the Pastor (suspect).
But why we are not calling it a clear case of kidnapping is because we see this as a case of cheap blackmail with threat to kidnap so we can not call him a kidnapper because he has not kidnapped anybody and no ammunition or gun was recovered from him”, said the PPRO.
