THE Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge (SAN) has lamented the dwindling student enrolment at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria.
He stated this when he visited the College on Monday.
His words, “This is a Federal institution in Asaba, and with my experience and exposure, I believe that you should not be thinking of anything less than 10,000 students. This should be our target, and we will not let it slip. Whatever we can do to increase the enrolment of this College, you can count on me, and I will drive the process.
“We cannot rely on the Federal Government to come and do everything for us. If you grow your enrolment, you will grow your internally-generated revenue (IGR), which you can use to address some of your challenges.
During the visit, according to Gallant Reporters, the monarch donated the sum of N5 million to enable the School purchase Six standing air-conditioning units after sweating profusely at the College auditorium, where he was received.
Recall that a year ago, the Provost of the College, Prof. Josephine Anene-Okeakwa had described reports carried by some online media platforms that Lecturers were more than students studying at the institution as yellow journalism.
After the said reports, which included The Townhall Ng, the School quickly organised a media tour with some Journalists (selected) for damage control.
During that celebrated media tour, the Provost appealed for responsible journalism and called on journalists to uphold professionalism by thoroughly investigating reports before publishing.
She commended the visiting journalists for taking the time “to verify facts firsthand rather than relying on rumors from enemies of the college”.
One remarkable aspect that media tour of projects (both completed and ongoing), the visiting Journalists praised the Provost to high heavens.
They (Journalists) on the said tour, stated that massive transformation had taken place under her (Provost) administration and encouraged her not to be discouraged by unwarranted attack from quarters within and outside the school.

Now the question is with the Asagba’s findings and remarks over enrolment and the promise to purchase air-conditioning units to enable some comfort at the school’s auditorium, who is telling the truth?
