A former Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Patrick Muoboghare, the President General of Uwheru Kingdom, Chief Macpherson Igbedi and nine others have been invited by Police for questioning over the alleged brewing crisis in Uwheru community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State, Nigeria.
The Police invitation, according to NIGER DELTA TODAY Online report, “is on the heels of an internal crisis between the Traditional ruler of Uwheru kingdom and some leaders of the area”.
They are to appear before the Delta State Police Command’s headquarters, Asaba at 11am on Monday, 30th September 2024.
Recall that sometime ago, the Army occupied Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State for almost two months.
The Army invaded the Okuama community on March 14, 2024 after 17 of its Officers and men purportedly on a peace mission were ambushed and gruesomely murdered.
Okuama, an Urhobo community in the Ewu kingdom was emeshed in a protracted conflict over ownership of a parcel of land with Okoloba, an Ijaw-speaking neighbour.
A copy of the Police invitation letter addressed to Mr. Obukohwo Ekpevwru of Uwheru community was dated September 25, 2024.
The invitation with Ref No CR: 3422/DTS/X-SQD/VOL3/172 signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of X-Squad Unit, Lucky Adagbon, reads in part, “This office is investigating the above mentioned case in which you and others were alleged.
“In the same vein, you are requested to come for an interface with the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Asaba, through the Office of the X-Squad Unit, Asaba, on Monday 30th September, 2024 at 1100hrs prompt.
“You are to come along with; Mr. Macpherson Igbedi ‘m’, Obukohwo Ojomi ‘m’, Uruemusin Arhagba ‘m’, Delta Ajamagran ‘m’, Orunc Igbedi ‘m’, Erhinodavwe Emerhivwe ‘m’, Onoriode Igbedi ‘m’, Mitain Arhagba ‘m’, Ahere a.k.a Good & Bad Emmanuel Okashe ‘m’, Prof Patrick Emuoboghare ‘m’.
Prof Muoboghare, who was Commissioner for Higher Education under Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was quoted by Niger Delta Today to have confirmed the development but refused to comment further on the issue.
