Anambra Gov Charles Soludo has no intentions to conduct Local Government Council elections next year, says Lawmaker

“It is glaring that Governor Charles Soludo has no intentions to conduct Local council elections next year”, says Member representing Awka South Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nigeria Mbachu.

Mbachu noted that the non-inclusion of Local Government Council election in the 2024 budget already presented shows that the State government is not ready for council polls next year.

He further said that the Local Government as the last tier of Government had suffered so much due to lack of election.

Said he, ā€œGoing through the budget presented that it’s glaring there are no intentions of conducting LGAs elections next year.

“On page 475 of the budget the budget for Anambra State independent Electoral Commission for this current year was 89,120,000.00 million while the projected estimate for the incoming year is129,120,000.00 million.

“You find out that there’s no feasibility or readiness for Local Government Elections for the incoming year.

“Local Government as the 3rd tier of government is the bedrock of governance. Leadership and political tutelage is heavily mounted on this tier of government and should be upheld thus.

ā€œIf this can be wishfully considered I’ll be glad. For now, the budget can go for 2nd reading,ā€ the Lawmaker stated.
