FURTHER attempt to deny us unfettered access to your custody to confer our client, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu might result to our withdrawal from the trial, Kanu’s Legal team threatens the Department of State Services (DSS).
Lead counsel, Alloy Ejimakor told newsmen in Abuja that “We will not be part of murdering justice in a Nigerian court over the head of Nnamdi Kanu. We will refuse to be part of the programmed injustice”.
He noted that DSS denying access to Kanu in their (DSS) custody was making it difficult to properly prepare for his defence in the terrorism charge slammed against him by the Federal Government.
Another member of Kanu’s legal team, Nnaemeka Ejiofor also said that “If Nigeria was to be a human being, it would have been committed to prison for committing the heinous crime. The government sent people to Kenya to kidnap Kanu; those people should be arrested and punished.
“Until Nigeria purges itself of the crime of kidnapping Kanu, it remains a crime country”, adding that Kanu never committed any crime and did not do anything to warrant his “persecution by the government of Nigeria”.
“Nigeria”, he went on, “does not have a valid Constitution to rely on, pointing out that the1999 Constitution is an extension of the decree of the military junta in power at that time.
“To avoid a vacuum, we are managing it as a country and yet the government is not respecting it….”.
Recall that a member of Kanu’s family, Prince Emmanuel recently wrote a strong worded letter on behalf of the family, raising alarm that his brother (Kanu) “is gravely ill”, and should not be allowed to die in custody.
He said that history would not be kind to the South East Governors and leaders if they keep quiet and do nothing to secure Kanu’s release who has been unlawfully incarcerated since June 2021.
Prince Emmanuel said his brother’s arrest and continued detention were politically motivated and aimed at suppressing his voice as a freedom fighter.
He insisted that his brother committed no crime by seeking justice for the marginalisation Igbo tribe and other Biafrans.
According to him, Kanu’s continued detention is because the South East Governors have not come together as a people to sincerely demand for his release.
“By allowing this flagrant violation of Human Rights to persist, your offices (South East governors) are complicit in the suppression of justice. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is gravely ill and dying slowly. Biafra land will hold you all accountable should anything happen to him”.
