Ahead 2027: Great Ogboru abandons Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori after promising to work for his re-election, decamps to ADC

By Austin Ogwuda

Despite the assurances of rallying round Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to realise his political ambition of returning back to Government House Asaba for his second tenure, prominent politician, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru has dumped him to join the trending Coalition – the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

His defection was formally confirmed on Friday July 18, 2025, by ADC Delta State Chairman, Austine Okolie.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with  The Story in a phone conversation, the Chairman of ADC said, “Yes. That was yesterday (Friday), he has shown interest to join the party.

“But he will come down to the Secretariat at Asaba to come and declare openly. He only indicated interest to join the party. So, we are waiting for his formal and open declaration”.

Recall that on the 29th of April this year while welcome Governor Oborevwori, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and others during the mass defection from PDP to APC described it as “a defining moment for Delta State and Nigeria”.

His words, “With Delta State aligning with the party (APC) at the centre, it is certain that a new chapter has been set for greater collaboration, impactful governance and a more inclusive political process”.

However the main reason for Ogboru, a serial defector to join the ADC will surely manifest in no distant future even as loyalists in the camp of the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege said that they smell a rat.
