Barring any legal challenge that may arise, the Delta State government has put a finality towards alleged controversies, protests trailing the emergence and the chalking of the new King of Aboh kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Obi Oputa III, as the 20th Obi of Aboh.
With this official pronouncement it is expected to be subsequently gazetted.
Briefing newsmen on Monday after an Executive Council (Exco) meeting at Government House Asaba, the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, said, “The Council confirmed key appointments, including the appointment of HRM, Dr. Gregory N. Oputa, as the Obi of Aboh in Ndokwa East, and Professor Epiphany Azinge, SAN, as the Asagba of Asaba Kingdom in Oshimili South Local government area”.
Recall that the emergence of Obi Oputa was greeted with series of protests spearheaded by the President General of the Community, Chief John Ajie Ogwu and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr Olise Imegwu.
Before the Delta State government put its official seal of endorsement on Obi Oputa as the authentic King, on Monday, a faction of Aboh community loyal to Obi Oputa had sometime last week, berated the President General of the Community, Chief John Ajie Ogwu accusing him of leading protests against the emergence of the King for alleged selfish reason.

Apart from a lone voice coming from one of the contenders to the throne, the Asaba people gave overwhelming acceptance and jubilated over the emergence of the new Asagba, His Royal Majesty, Obi Professor Epiphany Azinge (SAN).
However, Ogbueshi Anthony Ogugua Konwea, a Petroleum Engineer who was said to have emerged second in the selection exercise has headed to Court to challenge the selection process in the Suit No: DTHC/ASB/CV/254/2024 filed before Justice P. N. Obanor of the Delta State High Court of Justice.
