Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly has dismissed misconceptions surrounding the creation of Anioma State agenda.
Speaking during a live session on X (formerly Twitter) Space last Sunday, Nwoko took time to address critical questions and concerns regarding the proposed State’s formation.
According to him, “There is a clear distinction in culture, history and identity that sets Anioma apart.
“But beyond that, we have the economic foundations and resources that make us one of the most viable options for State creation in Nigeria”.
The live session, part of The Nigerian Political Pulse Check series, attracted thousands of listeners from both within and outside the country, which provided him the ample opportunity to dispel myths surrounding his die-hard quest for the realisation of the dream – creation of Anioma State.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, Senator Nwoko has been a vocal advocate for Anioma’s recognition as a distinct State.
During the session, he outlined the region’s significant economic potential, citing its agricultural capacity, human capital and strategic geographical location as key advantages while emphasising that Anioma would thrive within Nigeria’s Federal structure once established, becoming a self-sustaining entity.
Addressing questions from the session’s participants, Senator Nwoko made it clear that the push for statehood is rooted in principles of fairness and equity, reflecting the long-standing aspirations of the Anioma people.
Said he, “Our call for the creation of Anioma State is not just about redrawing boundaries; it’s about recognising the legitimate desires of a people who have greatly contributed to Nigeria’s development but have not yet been fully acknowledged within the current federal arrangement.
“The creation of Anioma State would strengthen our federation, providing an avenue for further national development without detracting from any other region”, he clarified.
