How we foiled planned attempt to kidnap guests during Oghara Poly graduation ceremony – POLICE

By Austin Ogwuda

SOME guests who attended the graduation ceremony at the Delta State Polytechnic Oghara should count themselves lucky as Police, upon receipt of credible information successfully foiled a planned attempt to kidnap them last week Tuesday.

The Townhall gathered that if not for the proactive action deployed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Oghara Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu another kidnap case could have been recorded.

This was disclosed in a press release by the Delta State Police Command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, a Superintendent of Police SP in Asaba today (Monday), who narrated how the planned kidnap was nipped in the bud.

According to him, “as part of the effort to curb the menace of kidnapping, armed robbery and other related vices in the State, the Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Olufemi Abaniwonda directed that all DPOs must ensure that their Area of Responsibility is Policed adequately, urging them to embrace community-based policing.

“He (CP) also directed that visibility patrol and a proactive approach to Policing is what all DPOs must adopt under his leadership. The Command has again recorded another breakthrough in the fight against crime and criminality.

“On 13th August 2024”, he went on, “while students of Delta State Polytechnic Oghara were having their graduation ceremony, the DPO Oghara Division received credible information that some suspected kidnappers had already perfected plans to kidnap guests who must have come to attend the ceremony.

“The DPO Oghara Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu acting on this information reacted swiftly, mobilized and led operatives of Oghara Division to their hideout in a bush along Otefe/ Ovade Legit Road.
“The suspected kidnappers on sighting the Police took to their heels and escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries from the gun duel with the Police. One AK-47 Riffle, one magazine, one English pump action gun and one locally made cut-to-size gun were recovered. Manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing”, the statement added.
