AS the battle for the new Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University DELSU rages,
a group which styled itself ‘The Integrity Academic Bombers’ has challenged the Vice Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga to publish the names of Lecturers he claimed that have PhD in the College of Health Sciences.
Recall that the same group had earlier raised alarm over alleged manoeuvre to unjustly exclude the Clinical Lecturers with the FELLOWSHIP and MD degree holders from the selection process in picking Egwunyenga’s successor whose tenure expires in the next six months.
The group in an earlier statement last week, alleged that the “criteria enunciated for the current Vice-Chancellor selection process are novel and certainly targeted at shutting out a very important group – the Clinical Lecturers of the Faculties of Clinical Medicine, Basic Clinical Sciences and Dentistry from the process.
“The goal of this action is still strange; it completely negates the existing extant guidelines and practices in the process of selection of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian universities”, said the group.
But in a sharp reaction, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Egwunyenga dismissed the claim of the group, saying “is false alarm; not correct because there are many Professors in the College of Health Sciences who have Ph.D”.
Irked by the response of the VC, the group in their latest statement today (Monday) wondered why the VC described their well-researched report as fake news by claiming that there are Professors with PhD in the Faculties of Clinical Medicine, Basic Clinical Sciences and Dentistry.
The statement reads, “Integrity Academic Bombers is by this response challenging him (VC) most unequivocally to publish the names of those Professors with PhD in these three Faculties. He should realize that he has a very serious moral burden to contend with by misleading and continues to mislead the Governing Council that surprisingly is made of men and women of impeccable characters.
“The likes of the chairman, Gen Alexandra Ogomudia ( Rtd), Prof G. G .Darah, Bar Doris Ejinyere, Rt Hon Martins Okonta, Sir Andrew Odum (SAN). Even serving members whose tenure are still running were part of the process that midwifed Prof Andy Egwunyenga. Chief Peter Biakpara, Prof Usiwoma – Enuku and Chief Surv. Terry Noah”.
The statement further added that “from the look of things, they strongly believe there is an interest from the University management.
”His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori Governor Delta state needs to know that Professor EGWUNYENGA might plunge Delta State University into a major crisis and the earlier the University VC is called to order the better”, the statement added
