Gunmen kidnap another traditional ruler in Imo State

BARELY two months the traditional ruler of Otulu Autonomous Community in Ezinihitte-Mbaise local government area in Imo State, Nigeria, Eze Joe Achulor was kidnapped, another traditional ruler has been kidnapped, thereby raising serious concern over the incessant targeted abduction and killings of traditional rulers in the State.

Eze Achulor was reported to have lost his life in the hands of the abductors.

The latest kidnap occurred yesterday (Saturday) at Orodo Autonomous Community in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, where the traditional ruler, Eze Samuel Ohiri was abducted from his palace.

Ohiri was a former Chairman of the Imo Council of Traditional Rulers.

According to an eye witness, the kidnappers stormed his palace in a commando style and seized the traditional ruler, but his cousin, who was with him, managed to escape.

“They dragged the traditional ruler into their vehicle, a Toyota Highlander and drove towards Umuaka-Orlu Road”, said the source.

Imo State Police Public Relations, Henry Okoye did not hesitate to confirm the incident, saying that “we (Police) have started an intense investigation and we have taken some steps to ensure that the victim is rescued and his kidnappers arrested. The suspects will be made to face the full wrath of the law when arrested”, he added.
