Israeli -Hamas war escalates

By Austin Ogwuda with Agency report

The situation in Gaza is heading for the worst as world leaders, the super powers are divided on on-going genocide in Gaza.

International conventions on war have been seriously breached by the two warring parties with civilian casualties mounting.

Already, Israel’s military has expressed readiness to expand its war on Gaza with coordinated attacks from the air, sea and land any moment from now as its deadline calling for relocation expired Saturday.

Tit bits:

*Mexico, Ukraine appeal for Gaza humanitarian corridor. Officials in Mexico and Ukraine have urged Israel to open humanitarian corridors in Gaza to evacuate their citizens from the besieged enclave.

Mexico’s Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena, who is working on repatriating a Mexican aid worker in Gaza, said: “We are trying to get her out via Egypt, but Israel is not authorising a humanitarian corridor, nor is it allowing anybody to get out.

“Even war has rules,” she said in the appeal for a safe evacuation corridor.

*In Ukraine, the country’s human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said Kyiv sent a note of protest with Israel after Ukrainian citizens were not allowed to evacuate from Gaza on Saturday.

“We do not understand why Ukrainian citizens are not allowed to evacuate, as well as other citizens of foreign countries,” Lubinets said.

“Especially – as everyone emphasizes – women and children were the first to ask for evacuation”.

*Russia asks UN Security Council for vote on Israel, Gaza Russia has asked the UN Security Council to vote on Monday on a draft resolution on the Israel-Hamas conflict that calls for a humanitarian ceasefire and condemns violence against civilians and all acts of terrorism.

Russia’s Deputy UN Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy said on Saturday that no changes had been made to the text since it was given to the 15-member body on Friday and that he expected the vote to be scheduled for 3pm local time (19:00 GMT) on Monday.

The one-page draft resolution also calls for the release of hostages, humanitarian aid access and the safe evacuation of civilians in need. It refers to Israel and the Palestinians but does not directly name Hamas.

*A UN Security Council resolution needs at least nine votes in favour and no vetoes by the US, UK, France, China or Russia. The US has traditionally shielded its ally Israel from any Security Council actions.

*Palestinian UN envoy decries ‘ethnic cleansing’ in Gaza

*Reuters calls for Israeli probe into journalist’s killing. The Reuters news agency is urging Israel to conduct a “thorough, swift and transparent investigation” into the death of its video journalist Issam Abdallah in southern Lebanon. The statement by Reuters President Paul Bascobert and Editor-in-Chief Alessandra Galloni came as the Lebanese army accused Israel of firing the missile that killed Abdallah and wounded several other journalists. The Israeli military said it was reviewing the incident.

*Demonstrators around the world are continuing to take to the streets of their cities and towns in support of Palestinians. Demonstrators rally during a “Stand with Palestine” march in solidarity with Gaza, in Dublin, Ireland.
