… “Calm down”, she urges her supporters
AMIDST damning reports and trending pictures of the alleged wounded persons during Saturday’s ill-fated Local Government Congress in Ethiope West local government area of Delta State, Nigeria, the home base of the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State has denied flatly.
In a terse message on Sunday, the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo claimed that there was no violence at all as being reported.
According to the statement, “There were no parallel congresses anywhere in Delta State. Those peddling such reports are living in self-denial and seeking relevance through deliberate distortion of facts. The APC structure in Delta State is intact, cohesive and fully integrated.
“Since 2014, this is the first time our party has successfully conducted congresses across Delta State in such a peaceful manner”.
Continuing, the statement noted that “The era of impunity, exclusion and divisive politics is over. What we have today is a broad-based and inclusive structure that accommodates both longstanding members and new entrants”.
Although, Ibori’s daughter, Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu is yet to react to Sunday’s press statement by the State leadership of the Party, she was quoted telling her supporters in a statement on Saturday, to “remain calm and avoid further escalation”.
