PDP in Delta staggers back to life, accuses defectors of betrayal, lack of principle

By Austin Ogwuda

Members of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Delta State loyal to Dr. Kabiru Turaki led National Working Committee faction on Thursday declared that despite the mass defection that hit the party they have resolved to forge ahead in readiness for 2027.

The declaration was made during the inauguration of a Caretaker Committee, which to the amazement of political watchers, witnessed a massive turnout.

Several Board of Trustees (BoT) members, including Chief Ejiofor Onyia and Dame Esther Uduehi described the massive turnout as clear evidence that the PDP is still alive and strong in Delta State.

Chief Ejiofor Onyia commended Elder Emmanuel Ogidi for sustaining the PDP’s presence in Delta State despite the mass defection led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

He criticised politicians who defect without ideological conviction, describing such actions as a betrayal of political principles.

His words: “People with principles, people with ideologies don’t jump from party to party, unless they are political prostitutes. What will make a man of dignity to leave his party and political family, and go to the enemy party and family that has been fighting you for many years”.

Addressing the gathering, Elder Emmanuel Ogidi who is also the South South Chairman of the party urged members to remain focused and continue to support the party.

He said, “PDP is the only party in this country today that has not changed its logo, name and ideology. It has remained people oriented”.

Ogidi, also took a swipe at those who defected from the party, describing them as “ungrateful to the PDP which made them to be what they are today”.

On the Ibadan National convention of the party, Ogidi said INEC attended the NEC meeting where issues of the convention were discussed, saying that the electoral umpire as allegedly bias in the lingering disputes confronting the PDP.

He expressed optimism that all the legal disputes would be resolved in no too distant time.

An eleven member Delta State PDP Caretaker Committee was inaugurated with Professor Sylvester Money as Chairman.

Members of the Committee were inaugurated with a mandate to reposition the party within a three-month tenure ahead of its elective Congress.

Professor Monye, in his acceptance speech said they were ready to carry everyone along through meaningful and purposeful engagement to rebuild the party ahead of 2027 general elections.
