Reminiscences: Remembering ‘Oracle’, as strong advocate for power shift in Delta politics

By Austin Ogwuda

Without mincing words, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi was a Reporter’s delight – was point blank – vociferous and one man who spoke truth to power and won’t give a hoot.

I vividly recall during my days with Vanguard, once he calls me for an interview, be rest assured that you would have enough to un-package.

On one occasion after an interview with him that early morning at his bungalow near Delta Broadcasting Service DBS, I heard him clearly telling me,  “Austin,  I called you because I know you would serve it without watering it, published it like that let the governor call me. I am not afraid”.

That was the time he was crusading for equity – power shift syndrome he spearhead and got bruised along the way, though, as the game unfolded but he NEVER retreated.

He stood firmly to that cause, unrelated even when many chickened out, he chose to remain the only man standing at the worst scenario.

Below is one of those fiery interviews

2015: Delta PDP chairman blasts SSG over power shift

By Austin Ogwuda

ASABA—DELTA State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, yesterday, faulted the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Ovuozourie Macaulay, for saying that he was not aware of any agreement between the Anioma and other parts of the state for a power shift.

Nwaoboshi who described the comment as “provocative,” told Vanguard in an interview that he had received several phone calls since the SSG made the statement, which was published in a national newspaper on Monday.

He said, “I want to say categorically here that the SSG should shut up his mouth and face the job the governor gave to him to do as SSG. In the first place, he has no right to speak because he is not a party functionary. He has never held party position in his life from ward to the national level. Also, he is not a foundation member of the party, but was brought in as a journalist in Asaba.

“He is just trying to make himself relevant. If he has political ambition, he should be bold to declare it and not to charge the political atmosphere with such provocative statements in the media.”

The SSG was quoted in the report to have said that as an insider, he was not aware of any agreement between the Anioma and other parts of the state for a power shift, adding that even if there was one, it was crystal clear that the people and leaders of Delta North never kept their end of it.
