How a fresh graduate newly employed by Bank was lured out, strangulated in cold blood

What a chilling story!

Reports reaching The Townhall via a post by  Journalist Patrick Ochei narrated how a fresh University graduate who recently served his National Youth Service at the Nigerian Television Station (NTA) Asaba was killed in cold blood by suspected friends.

He was said to have been gruesomely murdered on the eve of resumption of a new job offered him by one of the new generation banks.

His name was given as Tony Agbakoba.

According to the story, “the young man, Agbakoba Tony was a Corps member in Delta State a month ago. He served his motherland with his PPA at the NTA Asaba and has just passed out in about a month ago.

“In Nigeria, the dream and prayer of every young graduate is to get a job once he or she is done with NYSC. In most cases, it could take as much time as four to ten years to actualize.

“However, in the case of Tony, favour smiled at him within three weeks that he concluded his national youth service programme.

“Tony was employed at the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and he shared the good news with his friends. And on this particular day at his family house in Onitsha, Anambra State, he was washing his clothes in readiness for his resumption and he got a call from his friends. They had asked him to meet them up at a location. He dropped his clothes and left to join his friends but he never made it back.

“Tony”, the story continued, “never returned but the family got the sad news of his death. It was too shocking to believe. Tony was allegedly strangled to death by the same friends he had joyfully left home and what he was doing to meet up with.

“We learnt that jealousy took over the better part of his friends who were angry that after graduating years before Tony without a job, the same Tony had just been too fortunate to secure a job immediately after passing out of NYSC. And so, they allegedly murdered him and on their own rushed him to a hospital where they told the doctor on duty that they had an accident.

“Suspicious of the story, because there were no bruises on Tony’s body but his tongue was out, and the same time no bruises on the body of his friends. Being a smart doctor, he asked them to wait and quickly went into his office where he called the police.

“And very swiftly, the police arrived and arrested the particular friend that was inside the Emergency ward with Tony’s body while the other two outside who quickly noticed the police presence, took off and escaped. They are still at large while the one arrested had given useful information on what transpired”, the account stated.
