The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has emerged top in the zonal award system, instituted last year in Edo State by the Zonal Vice Chairperson,Comrade Stella Macaulay.
The winners were announced and Akwa Ibom State NAWOJ won the top award, receiving a N50,000 cash reward during a recent ceremony at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo.
Receiving the award, the Chairperson, Nsikak Okon highlighted the chapter’s outstanding advocacy for equal access to education and economic opportunities for women.
Nsikak Okon noted, “NAWOJ Akwa Ibom’s success is a testament to the power of collective effort and a shared vision for a more inclusive society, where women’s voices are amplified and valued”.
Building on this momentum, the chapter plans to launch more initiatives supporting women journalists and promoting gender equality.
Comrade Stella Macaulay praised the chapter’s community-focused programmes, stating, “NAWOJ Akwa Ibom’s achievement reflects its dedication to promoting gender equality, social justice, and women’s empowerment, setting a benchmark for others to follow and inspiring a new generation of women leaders”.
Bayelsa State NAWOJ Recognized for Punctuality and Active Participation
In a related development, the Bayelsa State Chairperson of NAWOJ was recognized for her punctuality and active participation during online meetings, receiving a N10,000 cash reward.
Bayelsa State NAWOJ has achieved a new milestone, winning the star prize in programme implementation, cohesion and the ability to hold members together for this year. This award will be redeemed at the next physical zonal meeting.
