The proposed mega protest in Ndokwa nation, tagged: Light Up Ndokwa is already sending cold to the spines of the Council Chairmen.
The protest slated for Monday June 16 is making three council chairmen uncomfortable to the extent that they hurriedly ran to Asaba to address a press conference distancing themselves from the protest.
The Chairmen are Barrister Possible Ajede of Ukwuani LG Council, Chief Godday Obi Nzete of Ndokwa West LG Council and Chief Vincent Osilonya of Ndokwa East LG Council.
Speaking at the press conference in Government House, Asaba on Thursday the chairmen pledged their loyalty to Governor Sheriff Óborevwori, adding that communities without electricity will soon be reconnected to the national grid.
Ajede, Ukwuani LG Council Chairman spoke on behalf of the other Chairmen.
Said Ajede : ‘It is not just about reconnecting to the grid, we are exploring options to reactivate gas turbines in gas rich’.
The Pond News understands that the organizers of Light Up Ndokwa are calling on the government to do a stepdown in Okpai so that the people of Ndokwa nation enjoy the electricity which Okpai is supplying to other parts of the nation.
The Pond News understands that for more than two decades, Ndokwa nation has been in darkness yet hosts one of the largest oil and gas reserves in Nigeria.
The Pond News recalled that Sir Monday Onyeme, the deputy governor and son of the soil on a national television recently berated the organizers for planning the protest.
He also alluded that Ndokwa youths were incapable of the such protest.
