…. Fish out erring Soldiers allegedly involved in the shooting, Rights Activist writes Chief of Army Staff
Following heightened security concerns in Abraka town, the Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba has issued a directive asking students of the institution to be more security conscious and remain indoors throughout today (Thursday).
This followed escalated violence in the town on Wednesday shortly after a deadly clash between security operatives and suspected herdsmen/kidnappers which left four of the suspected herdsmen/kidnapers dead.
The incident, which took place in the Makati Bichi area near the Railway station brought panic as speculations about reprisals attacks became rife.
The stay-at-home directive tagged, ‘IMPORTANT INFORMATION’ reads:
“Greetings to all
I wish to inform you all that due to the security situation in Abraka town, I have directed all our students to remain indoors tomorrow Thursday, June 5, 2025 till Management is sure of the safety of both staff and students.
Consequently, lectures and other academic activities will not hold tomorrow Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Let us all hope for a return to normality after the public holidays.

…. Fish out erring Soldiers allegedly involved in the shooting, Rights Activist writes Chief of Army Staff
On his part, the Director General, Confab for the Actualization of Human Right, Barrister Omes Ogedegbe has sent a petition to the Chief of Army Staff requesting that the erring Soldiers allegedly involved in the shooting spree during the Abraka protests to be fished out inorder to face the music.
The letter titled ‘USE OF BRUT FORCE AGAINST PEACEFUL PROTESTERS IN ABRAKA NIGERIA BY NIGERIAN ARMY OFFICERS ON MONDAY 2ND JUNE, 2025. DEMAND FOR ACTION’ reads:
“We have watched with alarm and dismay how members of the Nigerian Army unleashed brut force of peaceful protesters composed of students of the state owned University, indigenes and locals who were protesting against the increasing wave of kidnapping and hostage taking in Delta State with Abraka community remaining at the spotlight despite repeated outcry.
“While the kidnapping and hostage taking was increasing in the community, your officers acted with clear disregard to the plea for their intervention only to have subjected citizens of the state on a peaceful protest to the crudest decree of human Brutality and extending same to their properties in a manner that makes one begin to ask questions like why not use these energy in addressing the increasing cases of kidnapping and hostage taking. What a wasted energy.
“We shall only be consoled when you take responsibility for the destroyed properties and ensure the irate soldiers are brought to justice otherwise we shall bring an action against the Nigerian Army without delay and notice.
