... as Police deny involvement in the matter
THERE is a new twist in the alleged disappearance of hospital equipment worth over N100 million at the Asaba Specialist Hospital as the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme has formally confirmed the incident but completely washed off his hands from the investigation, claiming that the incident occurred before he assumed office.
The Delta State Health Commissioner while responding to The Guardian in Asaba on the outcome of the investigation, he reportedly said, “I know nothing about it. It happened in 2022 and I assumed office in August 2023.
“Moreover, the Police are already investigating it. How can they accuse me of something I know nothing about?” he queried.
But when The Townhall enquired from the Delta State Police command whether they are actually investigating the matter, the Spokesman of the command, Bright Edafe, a Superintendent of Police SP, replied thus: “No sir”.
“Efforts to investigate the disappearance of the equipment had been blocked. This is a waste of taxpayers’ money. How can some of the equipment purchased have disappeared into thin air. Transparency and accountability must prevail to ease tension”, according to an anonymous source quoted by The Guardian report.
