Ahead 2027: Is Governor Oborevwori actually in Ghana for the swearing-in of President-elect or to ambush President Tinubu over alleged defection plan?

By Austin Ogwuda

THE speculation being fuelled in some quarters is gathering momentum as to whether Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State is considering defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of 2027 Guber elections.

A group which styled itself ‘CONCERNED LEADERS OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP)’ had, few days ago, addressed an Open Letter to the governor challenging him to dispute the alleged claim that he had been romancing with President Bola Tinubu’s henchmen with regard to the defection plan in the offing.

After the publication of the Open Letter neither the governor nor his Media Aides reacted until only yesterday (Monday) when the State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Chief Solomon Arenyeka broke the silence.

Arenyeka, in a press statement said, “The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Delta state chapter has been drawn to mischievous, sinister and baseless speculations especially in the Social Media that the Governor of Delta State and our political leader, His Excellency, Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has perfected plans to decamp to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The State leadership of the PDP viewed such unfounded reports as the handiwork of jobless political hirelings and their ignoble sponsors as failed agents of destabilization and treachery”.

However, few hours after Arenyeka’s press statement, Mr. Fejiro Oliver disclosed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had allegedly sneaked into Ghana to ambush President Tinubu who would be arriving that country today (Tuesday).

The post ignited fire as Social Media Aides of the governor lambasted Oliver accusing him of falsehood; some claiming that the governor was in Abuja.

Whilst that was going on, the digital governor Oborevwori personally confirmed that he was in Accra and went on to explain his mission there.

Hear him,
“It was a privilege to pay a courtesy visit to the President-elect of Ghana, His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, earlier today (Monday) alongside my brother governors.

“This visit will enhance the bilateral relations between our states and, by extension, strengthen the ties between our beloved country, Nigeria and our sister nation, Ghana.

Congratulations once again to the President-elect”.

Shortly after the governor’s post which temporarily separated the fight between the governor’s Media Aides and Ejiro Oliver over the purported hide and seek game, a popular online platform – NewsGuru.com (TNG) came up with a comprehensive report, thus clearing the air on why the governor flew to Ghana and not sneaking in as speculated.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reported that President-elect Mahama on Monday received a team of Nigerian Governors in Ghana.

It added that in the delegation were the Governors of Delta, Zamfara, Adamawa, Plateau and Taraba States currently in Ghana at the invitation of Mahama for his inauguration as President.

However, political pundits are worried over the coincidental unfolding drama.

Time, will actually tell.
