91 cases of Gender Based Violence recorded, 13 Offenders convicted in Delta

A total of 91 cases were recorded with a conviction of 13 persons in Delta State as at March this year.

The Director of Women Development and Gender Affairs in the State Women Affairs ministry, Mrs Faith Okpohworho disclosed this during a one-day step down training of trainers(TOT) and service providers on the use of the National Gender based Violence, GBV Dashboard in the State.

She emphasized the need for proper collation and harmonization of data on victims of Gender based violence in the state and feeding same to the National Dashboard for accurate statistical representation.

The Director said the State ministry had successfully uploaded onto the NAPTIP’s database, 91 cases of Gender based Violence, (GBV), 13 convicted persons, all recorded in the State Offenders Registry as at March, 2023.

“The ministry had successfully handled 130 cases and had them referred to appropriate quarters for further consideration, as well as another 79 cases which were pending for hearing in court”, according to her.

The main objective of the step down training is to develop an innovative data management platform for efficient presentation of data on violence against women and girls.
